    Alexander Gerbig was born in 1878 in Suhl. Alexander Gerbig was a painter and graphic artist Alexander. In 1900 he began his studies at the Dresden Arts and Crafts School and worked on the side as a decorative painter. He encouraged his friend Max Pechstein, to do the same. Both Gerbig and Pechstein continue their studies at the Dresden Art Academy. During this time they lived together. Gerbig studied with R. Müller, Zwintscher and Kuehl and received the Villa Romana Prize in 1913 and the annual grant from the city of Florence. All his life he kept up close correspondence with Pechstein and regularly met with him. Alexander Gerbig passed away in Suhl in 1948.
