    Alexander Brullov was sent to Italy, along with his brother Karl, from 1822 to 1826, by the Imperial Academy in order to improve his skills in the field of architecture. In search of new subjects, he traveled a lot in Italy and in particular in Naples which caused a real visual shock in him. Its picturesque landscapes and Vesuvius definitely marked the mind of Alexander Brullov. It was during this stay that his talent as a portrait painter revealed himself, the architect by training who had come to design the most excellent Italian monuments. In 1824, Brulloff moved to Naples in a house by the bay, overlooking the promenade of Santa Lucia which will serve as his workshop. He thus began to trade in his watercolor portraits, even he q...
