    Alexandre Arkadevich Labas was born in 1900 in Smolensk.

    Labas was a Russian Artist, a representative of expressionism, and one of the most distinctive masters of the EPA circle.

    Labas studied at the Stroganov Arts and Industrial School under F.F. Fyodorovsky (1912-1917), and also visited the Studio of I.I. Mashkov (1916) and the Free Art Studios (1917) where he was studying under P.P. Konchalovsky.

    Labas studied at the VhUTEMAS State Arts Institute (1921-1924), and he was one of the founders of the “Easel Painters Association” (EPA, 1925).
