    French painter, draughtsman, watercolorist and engraver of history, typical scenes and genre born in Paris, he is one of the most brilliant representatives of the Orientalist and Romantic School of his time. He trained in the workshop of Etienne Brouhot and perfected his skills at Abel de Pujol's while practicing at the Louvre at the School of the great Flemish masters, but especially Rembrandt. Attracted very early by oriental subjects, Decamps was sent on a mission to Greece with the painter Garneray, in charge of representing the victory of Navarin.
