    Alexandre Jacques Chantron was a pupil of Francois Pirot, William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. He began by painting genre and history scenes, portraits and still-life (flowers), later painting nudes in the style of Bouguereau.

    He first exhibited at the Salon de Paris of 1877 with a history painting, Christ at the Column, receiving a merit in 1893, a third-class medal in 1899, and a second-class medal in 1902.www.odonwagnergallery.com
