    A sculptor and painter, Alfred Janniot was a member of the French Academy in Rome. He is most noted for his scultural works, Tapestry in Stone, in Paris at the Oceanographic Museum and in Nice for a memorial to the dead.

    In 1934, his bas-relief sculpture, Friendship Between America and France was installed at Rockefeller Center in New York City above the entrance of la Maison Francaise, 610 Fifth Avenue. It is arranged in narrative form, to be read from top to bottom, and at the top has two "heroic size female figures holding hands, symbolizing the alliance between the cities of Paris and New York."
