About Alfred Wahlberg

    Alfred Wahlberg was born in Stockholm in 1834 and initially studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music before eventually starting to compose small-format landscapes from around Stockholm in the 1850s. From 1857-62 Wahlberg studied at the Academy in Düsseldorf, where he was among others a pupil of Hans Gude. This was followed by several study trips to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Brussels.

    For a short time Wahlberg was working in Sweden and in 1866 became member of the Academy Stockholm. After several extended stays in Paris he received the title of deputy professor at the Academy in Stockholm in 1880.
