    The painter Alfred Zoff was born in 1852 in Graz. He began his training as a painter with Hermann von Königsbrunn at the National Art School in Graz, in whose class the famous Austrian painter Marie Egner was also educated. From 1880 to 1884 he studied at the Vienna Academy under Eduard Peithner of Lichtenfels and from 1890 under Gustav Schönleber at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe.

    He undertook numerous study trips, including Italy, Holland and Belgium. However, his motifs were mainly inspired by the Styrian landscape, which earned him many awards as well as a professorship for landscape and still life painting at the National Art School in Graz.
