    Alois Erbach was born in 1888. He was a trained locksmith and surveying technician. In 1908, he began taking painting and drawing lessons at the School of Applied Arts in Munich.

    In 1912, he studied with Angelo Jank at the Munich Academy. In 1924, Erbach moved to Berlin, where he maintained friendly contact with George Grosz and Otto Dix, among others.

    From 1925 to 1932, he was a member of the artist group ‘Die Abstrakten’. Alois Erbach’s early work was influenced by expressionism. Later, he orientated towards Surrealism and New Objectivity.
