    Alphonse-Marie-Adolphe de Neuville was a French academic painter who studied under Eugène Delacroix. He is known for his dramatic and intensely patriotic subjects, which illustrated episodes from various wars such as the Franco-Prussian War, the Crimean War, and the Zulu War, as well as portraits of soldiers. Some of his works have been collected by the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and by the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

    De Neuville studied under Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) and was undoubtedly influenced by his highly dramatic scenes.
