    Andre´ Dignimont 1891-1965, was born in Paris. He studied at the College Juilly, worked for a time in London, then returned to Paris to study at Acade´mie Julian.

    He was a very prolific artist and illustrator for more than four decades. His work reflects his love of provocative women, cafe life, and the environs---documenting a unique insight into the Parisian experience.

    Dignimont was primarily a watercolor artist in the tradition of Jules Pascin. He incorporates pen and ink and washes of color that become very distinct as a style of his own.

    He exhibited at Salon D’Automne, Salon de Inde´pendants, Salon des Tuileries, and Salon de L’Araigue´e. He also illustrated more than fifty books. He had a major exhibit in 1928 at Galerie Bernier in Paris. He exhibited often at Galerie Bernier and Galerie Charpentier.

    Dignimont also designed for the Paris Opera and the Come´die Franc¸aise. He was awarded Chevallier de la Le´gion d’Honneur.

    Dignimont’s atelier was dispersed in a series of auction sales beginning in 1986, in the series of heavily illustrated catalogues there appear many fine critical revues that span decades.
