    The last years of Andrzej Wróblewski's life seem to be one of the most interesting episodes in the history of post-war art. At the beginning of the 1950s, disappointed with his ineptitude as a socialist realist painter, he began to redefine the assumptions of his work. His original artistic program, although apparently coinciding with the postulates of realistic art, was too nonconformist, too revolutionary. This does not mean, however, that he has completely abandoned realism as such.

    In parallel, Wróblewski created the last pictures commissioned by party and state orders, as well as intimate compositions that were a specific illustration of family life and his closest surroundings. In the fall of 1953, Wróblewski married Teresa...
