    Ángel Alonso (1923–1994), exiled in France from 1947, occupies a singular place within contemporary painting. A close collaborator and friend of the philosopher María Zambrano, he developed an artistic career marked by radical expressiveness and a profound material exploration—qualities that resonate strongly throughout his oeuvre.

    As art historian Francisco Jarauta notes, Alonso mastered with great assurance the pictorial matter and technique he himself had forged, enabling him to embody in his works the colours that most intensely preoccupied him. His relationship with colour was both conceptual and tactile: he approached it through texture, pushing beyond the traditional limits of the canvas and merging it with natural elements ...
