    Angela Gurria was born in 1929 in Mexico City. She was student of Germán Cueto, who introduced her to abstractionism within the sculptural forms in Mexico. Gurria was the first woman to be accepted as a member of the National Academy of Arts. She has received numerous awards, among which stands out the National Award of Sciences and Arts in the area of Fine Arts. This was awarded by the Ministry of Public Education in 2013.
