Gasteiger, Anna Sophie (1878-1954)

German painter Anna Sophie Gasteiger, nee Anna Sophie Caroling Meyer, was the daughter of an architect. In 1894, she traveled to Munich where she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. While studying at Dachau, she met, fell in love with and married sculptor Matias Gasteiger.

During 1902, the Gasteiger’s built a summer home on a large property that soon became and artists’ colony. Eventually, another home located in Munich was gamed for social events the couple hosted to celebrate the works of painters, sculptors and other artists.
