    Teofil Kwiatkowski was a Polish artist born in 1809. He was a member of the Great Emigration, a group of Polish intellectuals who left Poland after the defeat of the November Uprising.

    Kwiatkowski was primarily a watercolorist and was known for his portraits of members of the Polish emigrant community in Paris. He was also a friend of the composer Fryderyk Chopin and accompanied him in his last moments, preserving his posthumous image.

    Kwiatkowski's watercolors were characterized by their elegance, picturesqueness, and refined range of colors. He used a delicate trace of a crayon or a soft pencil to suggest the planned shape and a non-imposing guide of the motive. Kwiatkowski died in 1891....
