    Antonio Rotta (Italian, 1828-1903)

    Born in Gorizia, a small town at the foot of the Alps, in northeastern Italy, on the border with Slovenia. It is the capital of the Province of Gorizia, and is a local center of tourism, industry, and commerce. He died in Venice, Italy.

    Antonio Rotta is best remembered for his Mythological subjects and Genre scenes. He studied at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Venice. He was one of the first artist to emerge as a classical genre painter. His rigorious training in academic schooling, and the use of subjects from every day life made his overve very popular in his time.
