    Arthur A. Selander was born in Marshfield, Oregon in 1885. His early training in art was with Peter Winthrop Sheffers (1893-1949). He was a member of the American Artists Professional League and the Oregon Society of Artists from which he won awards in 1941 and 1943. Selander exhibited at the Portland Art Museum; the Oregon Society of Artists; Elfstrom Gallery and Dekum Gallery.

    Selander took an art course from the International Correspondence School in 1905 and worked for the Oregonian as a cartoonist in 1907 and 1908. He was an accomplished draftsman and his drawings showed exceptional skill. Later in life he taught for the Juniper Art Guild in Crook County. He had a one-person exhibition in Virginia.
