    Arturo Rogerio Luz, born November 20, 1926, became a Philippine National Artist awardee in visual arts. Born in Manila, he is also a known printmaker, sculptor, designer and art administrator. He was a founding member of the modern Neo-realist* school in Philippine art, and received the National Artist Award, the country's highest accolade in the arts, in 1997.

    He studied painting at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and also studied in the United States and Paris. He entered the Philippine art scene during the 1950s and had his first solo exhibition in 1951. His early work was figurative*, but he later moved towards abstraction*.
