    Born in Berlin in 1921, Arwed Balcke studied at the local Academy of Fine Arts. He was a master student of Professor Schlüter and Professor Schäfer. He then continued his studies with Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg and Professor René at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris. Afterwards, he worked as an art teacher alongside his artistic career and spent 10 years in France.

    Among Balcke’s prominent commissioners are the former Federal President Theodor Heuss, the King of Jordan, and the songwriter Charles Asznavour.
