He studied at the Munich Academy with Hermann Anschütz, initially influenced by Carl Spitzweg. Splitgerber maintained a friendship with Wilhelm Leibl and around 1877 transitioned to Impressionism, later embracing Art Nouveau. He supplied works to various exhibitions in cities like London, Berlin, Bremen, Nuremberg, Dresden, and Hamburg, with a notable contribution to the Munich Glass Palace.
