Dohlmann studied under various renowned painters in Paris and traveled to different countries for further artistic development. Apart from her artistic endeavors, she was a strong advocate for promoting educational opportunities for female artists. Dohlmann played a significant role in establishing the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' School of Art for Women and was involved in organizing exhibitions to showcase women's art. She was one of the few women of her time who could sustain a living through painting and even created a scholarship for female flower painters.
