About Auguste Bachelin

    Born in Neuchâtel in 1830, Auguste Bachelin studied painting in Paris from 1850, where he was a student of Charles Gleyre and Thomas Couture.  In addition to the French capital, he was also active in Marin, where he had a studio house, allowing him to focus on painting, historical research and writing.

    In 1864, he became a founding member of the Société d’histoire et d’archéologie du canton de Neuchâtel.  In 1885 he was also involved in the planning of the new historical museum in Neuchâtel.  His popular themes included landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and military compositions.

    Bachelin died in 1890.(cbo)
