    Augustin Ferrando was born in 1880 and died in 1957. He was a French Orientalist painter of the Modern School, also known as the School of Algiers. Augustin Ferrando was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers under the direction of Hypolite Dubois, a student of Ingres, before joining the Druet Academy.

    Encouraged by the collector Rouby, the composer Camille Saint-Saëns and Georges Rochegrosse, he perfected his skills at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and with Fernand Cormon, who entrusted him with the position of Massier. If he befriended Derain, Matisse, Léger, Vlaminck and Utrillo, he was essentially fascinated by the Fauve Art of Cézanne and Gauguin.
