Barli Sasmitawinata was an Indonesian painter, draftsman, and illustrator. He received his training from local painters and later studied at the Academia Grande de la Chaumière in Paris and at the Academy of Fine Art in Amsterdam in the 1950s. He then returned to Bandung, Indonesia. Sasmitawinata's paintings depict realistic scenes in strong colors and he was able to capture the atmosphere of the southern light in his portrayal.
