He succeeded Breckenheijmer as resident painter at the Hague theatre, the Koninklijke Schouwburg, where he became renowned for his beautiful sets, some of which have been preserved (Amsterdam, Theatmus.) He painted a complete set of scenery for the theatre at Nijmegen, where the curtain is admired to this day; for the Hague he designed the side-scenes for The Wreck of the Medusa, which are...
