    Benito Mercadé moved to Barcelona in 1838 and entered the School of La Lonja. He later extended his training at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. Mercadé made his first exhibition in 1852 and settled in Madrid in 1853. He received recognition at various exhibitions and won awards in Paris. He worked on commissions in Barcelona and became a full professor at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in 1882. Mercadé is represented in museums such as the Prado Museum, MACBA in Barcelona, and museums in Girona and Zaragoza.
