    Bernard Boutet de Monvel, born in Paris on 10 August 1881 and died in the Azores on 28 October 1949, was a French painter, designer and illustrator. As a portrait painter, he was known for clean lines and pale colours.

    He grew up in Meudon at 7 Trail White Stones in the house where his father Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel was born. He studied with his father, also a renowned painter, and later with Luc-Olivier Merson for painting and Jean Dampt for sculpture. From 1903 he exhibited in various shows.
