Bernd Koberling was born in 1939 in Berlin, Germany. He decided to become an artist while training as a chef, when he felt the need to paint something one evening after working in the kitchen. Since he had no paper available, he made use of shoeboxes as a painting surface. Even then he was fascinated by the freedom of the abstract. The three resulting pictures filled him so much that he decided to pursue this activity full-time in the future.
