From 1945-1948 Luginbuhl completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor in his hometown, and at the same time attended the arts and crafts school and trained himself as an iron sculptor. Through his occasional assistance in setting up various exhibitions in the Bern art gallery, he came into contact with the sculptural work of Julio Gonzáles, Alexander Calder and Eduardo Chillida. After his first experiments with iron at the end of the 1940s, Bernhard worked almost exclusively with this material from 1953 onwards. While his compositions were initially based...
