    Betty Baldwin (1889 – 1981)

    A prominent Quebec City painter, illustrator, draftsman and educator, Betty Baldwin (nee Elizabeth Smiles) was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. After living for many years in Paris, France; New York City; and Portland, Maine, she immigrated to Quebec City in 1924; where she lived for several decades. She died in Montreal, Quebec. Her works are in the collections of La Pulperie, Chicoutimi, Quebec; the Musée Louis-Hemon, Peribonka, Quebec; and the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts, Sherbrooke, Quebec. (1)(2)

    Her primary mediums were oil paint, pastels and charcoal drawings. Her subjects included portraits, still life, figures, landscapes, city street scenes, architecture, rural scenes, genre, interior...
