    Brita Nordencreutz Grew up in a home with a large art collection and a library full of books on European art. “Brita should do something fun while she is young,” Brita’s father believed, encouraging his daughter to seek an art education. Brita started at Carl Wilhelmsson’s painting school in Stockholm in 1918, and he immediately saw her talent and recommended that she apply to André Lhote in Paris, where she studied between 1920 and 1921. Lhote’s principles were that students should build contrasts, curves against lines, and use alternating warm light and cold shadow and vice versa, which is clearly seen in her work from this time.
