    Carl Palme's significance for the modernist phase of art in Sweden cannot be underestimated. After completing studies in London at Slade School of Fine Art 1900-01, he was enrolled in the years 1902-04 at the free painting school Phalanx led by Wassily Kandinsky in Munich. It was during the academic years in Munich that Palme became the eagerly experimental and for new signals in the art-responsive artist, who, along with the men of 1909, paved the way for the breakthrough of modernism in Sweden.
