    Carla Carli Mazzucato was born in Appiano, amid the Alps of northern Italy, in 1935. With a style that draws from both impressionism and expressionism, Mazzucato's art is known for its bold color palette and artful blending of form and figures within landscapes and street scenes.

    Described by Samuel Sachs II, former director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, as a "modern expressionist," Mazzucato was influenced early in her career by the work of George Rouault, though her later paintings have been compared to works by Chagall, Renoir and Monet. She attended the Cà Foscari Academy in Venice and the Università Cattolica in Milan before immigrating to the United States in 1962 where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree...
