    Among the leading Italian Divisionists, Carlo Fornara participated in the first Brera Triennale in 1891—a key exhibition that marked the official birth of Divisionism in Italy—and emerged as a leading figure on the national stage with two works, Rimembranze and The Boilermaker's Shop, exhibited alongside masterpieces such as Maternità by Gaetano Previati and Le due madri by Giovanni Segantini. His encounter with the latter, in particular, would profoundly impact him, proving crucial to his subsequent poetic evolution, both in his choice of themes and in the development of the filament technique.
