    Carroll Sargent Jr Tyson biographical photo
    Best known for his Audubon-style watercolors, Carroll Tyson was a long-time resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who also worked out of a studio in Northeast Harbor, Maine.

    He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and with William Merritt Chase, Thomas Anshutz, and Cecilia Beaux. He also studied in Germany with Carl Marr.

    Carroll Sargent Tyson Jr. specialized in bird and landscape paintings and exhibited widely in the United States and London. He was a cousin of John Singer Sargent and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1896 to 1899. Tyson continued to exhibit at the Academy throughout his long career. In 1900, he studied in Paris and formed friendships with artists such as Claude Monet, Earl Horter, and John Marin.
