    In the 1950s Maguire took a teaching post at Lurgan College as Senior English Master. He had previously spent time with Maurice C. Wilks who had taken him on painting trips in Cushendun. Encouraged by this experience he enrolled in evening art classes and soon afterwards became an active member of the Lurgan Art Club. By the early 1960s he was exhibiting regularly with the RUA, becoming an Associate there in 1967 and a full member in 1974. He resigned from Lurgan College in 1981 and has painted full-time ever since. Much of his work shows a passion for the West of Ireland capturing scenes of Connemara landscapes, harbours and horse fairs. His work is in such collections as The United Nations Headquarters, New York, The Ulster Museum, Belfas...
