From 1921 on, he taught at Shanghai Art College, Peking Naitional Art School, Hangzhou National Art College, Huadong Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Department of Shandong Normal University. His painting Good Harvest of Pumpkins is in the collection of China Art Museum. Of Chinese artists of the 20th century Li Chaoshi was among the first of those who studied western paintings in Europe. He was, besides, a prominent artist and art educationist of distinct achievement who pioneered gouache painting and set in motion its advocacy.
