    Charles Artus was a sculptor who was born in 1897 and passed away in 1978. He specialized in animal sculpture. Charles was introduced to sculpture in the workshop of Edouard Navellier and later became the assistant of François Pompon. He joined the "Group of Twelve" in 1931 and exhibited at numerous shows including the Animalists, Autumn, French Artists and Independents. Artus became one of the great animal sculptors of the interwar period and acquired an international reputation. The Cat's Head that is presented was printed in a few rare copies, all of them during Charles' lifetime.
