About Charles Bunnell

  • Biography

    Abstract painter and teacher Charles Bunnell was born in Kansas City, Missouri and later moved to Colorado Springs with his family. Before serving in WWI he studied at the Broadmoor Art Academy from 1922 to 1923 and from 1927 to 1928. His teachers were Boardman Robinson and Ernest Lawson.

    In 1949, he opened his studio in Colorado Springs and gave classes from there.

    As a WPA artist from 1934 to 1941, he was commissioned to paint murals for the Colorado Springs Post Office. His work has been exhibited in several one-man shows including the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and the Santa Fe Museum.
