    The following biography, submitted September 2004, has been provided by Richard Holloway, third cousin of the artist.

    A landscape and marine artist, engraver and lithographer, Charles Holloway was born at Christchurch, Hampshire, England on May 10, 1838, the son of Charles Holloway, a stained-glass window producer. He studied at Leigh's Academy, and worked with Frederick Walker, Charles Green and Sir J.D. Linton at Leigh's Studio in Newman Street, London. Subsequently he associated with William Morris in the production of stained glass until 1866. Then he devoted himself almost entirely to painting and drawing, frequently using Fen Street and the Thames as subject matter. His watercolors are impressionist in style.
