    Charles Thomas Burt was an English Midlands landscape painter, 1823-1902, born in Wolverhampton, England and pupil of Samuel Lines from Birmingham. He was a friend and pupil of David Cox (q.v.) who influenced Burt's painting style.

    His expressive palette shows all the qualities associated with the Birmingham School. His light fresh palette contrasts with the heavy colors of the Norwich and Suffolk Schools, giving his subjects a brighter and attractive quality. He swept aside the darker clouds of David Cox and allowed light to echo broadly across his landscapes.
