    Charles Ernest de Belle ARCA (1873 – 1939)

    A prominent early 20th century Canadian painter and illustrator, Charles Ernest de Belle was born in Budapest, Hungary; lived in London, England (c.1893 to 1912); and, immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1912, where he lived for the rest of his life and died. He exhibited with the Royal Academy of Arts* in London (1911); and, after arriving in Canada, exhibited frequently with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*. His works are in the permanent collections of many major Canadian art museums such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the National Gallery of Canada. (1)(2)
