    Christian Berentz (1658-1722) was a student of Hermann Kamphusen (1667-1673) and Georg Hainz (1673-1677), who trained him as a professional still life and flower painter. From 1677 to 1679, he traveled through the Netherlands. In 1679 he went to Venice and then to Rome, where he remained until 1722.

    Other sources state that he was a teacher of Pietro Navarra and worked in the studio of Carlo Maratta. Berentz is especially known for his still lifes in the manner of Pieter Claesz, Maximilian Pfeiler and Willem Kalf, among others.
