    Christian Ludwig Attersee, actually Christian Ludwig, was born in Bratislava in 1940. In 1944, he moved to Austria where he grew up near the Attersee lake. In the 1950s, he started drawing comics and designing stage sets. From 1957 onwards he studied stage design at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, then painting under Eduard Bäumer.

    In the mid-1960s, he created his first series of painting, held his first successful exhibitions and made a name for himself as a European Pop artist. Attersee became acquainted with the main representatives of Viennese Actionism, with whom he occasionally collaborated. He is regarded as the founding figure of the 'New Austrian painting'.
