Chuks Anyanwu was born in 1937 in Nigeria. He studied graphic art, painting, textile design and sculpture at the Yaba Technical Institute and later attended The London Art College and the College of Arts, Science and Technology in Zaria, Northern Nigeria. Anyanwu's distinctive stylised paintings elegantly fuse traditional folkloric scenes with geometric designs that had modernist overtones. To the 21st century viewer the delicacy of the forms mirror the vulnerability of the subject matter viewed across time. Chuks Anyanwu combined his work as a painter with a successful career as a graphic artist working as an art director for newspapers in Nigeria and Ghana.
