    Clifford Fishwick was born in Accrington, Lancashire and received his training at the Liverpool School of Art between 1940-42. In 1947 Fishwick moved to Devon where he began teaching at Exeter College of Art, before being appointed Principal of the College in 1958. Closely associated with St Ives painters, Peter Lanyon, Trevor Bell and Paul Feiler, Fishwick regularly exhibited alongside the Newlyn and Penwith societies. Influenced by the abstraction favoured by his Cornish contemporaries, the mastery of colour and light of Turner, and the structural brilliance of Cezanne, Fishwick’s landscapes, which frequently referred to his West Country surroundings both topographically and culturally, are at once completely individual, whilst also b...
