    Clifford Warren Ashley (1881 - 1947) was a Massachusetts native and student of the Brandywine artist, Howard Pyle. Ashley was well known for his marine paintings and illustrations of New Bedford and Brandywine schools, his ship models, and his book, "The Ashley Book of Knots."
