Back in Paris, he accepted a teaching position in 1869 at the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins, Paris. He was also the first teacher of Picasso and in 1885 also became teacher of Édouard Vuillard. Maillart’s themes are mainly based on historical and religious subjects as well as Arcadian landscapes but also portraits.
