    Dmitry Nalbandyan was a painter of ceremonial portraits and also painted landscapes. Nalbandyan considered himself a follower of the impressionistic style of Konstantin Korovin. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR, and was named a People’s Artist of the USSR. Also in 1946 and 1951, he receieved a Laureate of Stalin Prize, and a Lenin Prize Laureate in 1982.

    Nalbandyan studied at the Tbilissi Academy of Fine Arts in the class of E. Lancere (1924 - 1929). In 1931, he moved to Moscow. During his long artistic life, Nalbandyan became famous for creating many portraits of representatives of the Soviet political elite, including Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev and Leonid Brezhnev.
